Quote: The situation in Sarum Prime has gotten way out of control.
Sarum Prime is often camped by pirates, but I'm not sure if I'd say that its way out of control.
Quote: Jump-in point camping (or any kind of spawn camping) is cheap and lame to start with.
Yes, it is lame, but unfortunately its sometimes the easiest way to engage someone as things stand.
Quote: Deliberately putting out cans and drones you're not using in combat to cause lag so you can kill people without risk is an exploit. I don't care that the GMs say that it isn't right now, it is. Using an out-of-game mechanic to gain an unfair in-game advantage is the very definition of an exploit.
I agree with you on this 100%. Fortunately most of the pirates in Sarum Prime do not use this tactic. Don't quote me on this, but I do believe a GM did warn some pirates about using containers to induce lag a few nights ago, and removed what they had deployed.
Quote: Sarum Prime, one jump from Amarr, the homeworld of the Empire and a 1.0 system on the super-highway. Sarum Prime is in the heart of the empire, not out in the unclaimed regions and 0.0 space.
Yes, this does suck.
Quote: But as of this moment, there have been 43 ships destroyed and 30 pod kills there in the last 24 hours.
That is a high number. I'm curious as to how many of those destroyed ships had come in from Amarr, where there is usually a large friendly container warning of pirates in Sarum Prime.
Many times I've sat at that gate, waiting for my comrades to arrive so we can jump in to take on the pirates. I sometimes message the ships passing through to warn them of the danger ahead - but they usually thank me and then jump through anyway.
It's good to see that you're using the map to look for danger spots - if more people did this, the pirates would have to think more about where they set up their ambushes.
Quote: 32 ships have been destroyed in Amarr itself.
The number of ships killed in 1.0 space is always quite high. You'd be surprised at just how many people go out in their rookie ships, attack someone and then get ganked by Concorde.
Quote: How many people are going to quit the game because of the griefers there before something is done?
Eve is a frustrating game - that's a large part of the enjoyment. I do hope that the problems in Sarum Prime don't spoil too many people's enjoyment
Quote: Oh... and add cowards to the title line too. When a group jumped in to fight these "pirates," they immediately fled to Amarr, a 1.0 system, where they were absolutely safe... despite having security ratings of -9 or lower.
It's normal for them to do this. The pirates aren't much safer in Amarr though, as people with that low a sec rating aren't defended by Concorde afaik. And when they do run away, at least the trade lanes are open for a while
Quote: I'll make it clear since people seem to argue about the definition of griefing and exploiting a lot. This is cheating. Cheaters should be penalized if not banned. Cheaters ruin the game for everyone. Clear enough?
Yes, cheaters should be banned. I'm not sure that all of the pirates in Sarum Prime are cheaters, however. As I've previously said, most of them do not intentionally use lag at the JIP there, and there isn't really anywhere else for them to sit and wait for the passing traffic.
If you don't like what the pirates are doing in Sarum Prime, my advice would be to get involved with the people who take them on!
If you need to pass through there, its worth doing some research before hand - ask in the local channel in Amarr or wherever if anyone knows if there's a problem in SP, contact one of the anti-pirate corporations for a status report, look for warnings at the stargate to the system, or look on this forum for the latest news.
If you're not sure how dangerous a system currently is - avoid it!
Hope this helps.
